Easy DIY Easter Decor
I’m still working on my timing to get my makings and tutorials to you before the actual event, but it’s proving more challenging than anticipated. I’ve got a bunch of half painted wooden eggs waiting for me on my desk, which, at the pace I’m currently going, won’t be ready before May. A little late for Easter eggs… Anyhow, I’ve got a simple Easter Craft project for you. It’s easy to make and looks lovely. It will turn any room in the house festive in a very understated and subtle way.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find free downloads to print, cut and make your own folded paper eggs. It will only take you 30mins or so and all that you’ll need, you probably have already at hand at home:
White paper/card
(Use a heavy weight paper or card, if the paper is too thin, the glue will bend the segments and your egg will look wobbly and wonky. I’ve used Matte White Flyer Paper from Staples, it’s 170g/m2)
Scissors
White Glue (or Glue Stick)
Small Paintbrush
White Thread
A pretty twig or branch
STEP 1: Print the templates and cut out the egg shapes (Approx. 18-20pcs per egg)
STEP 2: Fold each egg shape in half lengthwise
STEP 3: Gently brush a thin layer of glue on the top half of a folded egg shape, then align and glue the bottom half of the next one onto it. Repeat until you’ve used everything up and are left with a neat little stack of half moons. Make sure not to overdo it with the glue to avoid bends and wobbles. A little goes a long way. If you prefer, you can use a glue stick, but make sure to carefully cover the entire surface area for best results.
Although the process is simple and straightforward, it does require patience and precision work :-)
STEP 4: Take the first and last folded halves and glue them together to form the circular shape. Once you have your egg, you can loop a cotton thread around your creation and tie it into a knot right above the top middle opening of the egg. This will ensure that your egg doesn’t hang at a wonky angle.
I will add a photo of this step shortly.
And that’s it really! I hope you’re having fun with this. I love the simplicity of this technique. The effect is amazing and all you need is a little paper and glue.
Happy Easter to you all!
Enjoy and celebrate with what you have and whoever you can (or are allowed) to see at this time. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just a little further into 2021 and we’ll hopefully get back to a semblance of normality. Keep on walking, we’ll get there! Much love, Kat x
